i just got back from alia's open hse in ballsbridge. im all hyped up, possibly due to the effects of those yummy seedless grapes which affected quite a number of people at alia's for some reason. anyways this blog would not be a blow-by-blow of how my day went, but rather a reading and an understanding of my day.

so how did my day go? it started off with a nice relaxing stroll to ucd, since i was actually, for once, early for something. id like to make a point that i didnt play at all today, and as such i am not to be credited for the win. when someone asks me who won i will answer 'UCD' instead of 'we won'. it doesnt piss me off more so than it frustrates me that i was in the lineup but didnt play. not because i was terhegeh-hegeh about playing (excited, yes, but not desperate) but because the team was tired, and we could have done with substitutions. however, they did win, thanx to some strong burst of energy at the very ends of the game. it was such a tough fight that we didn't have a clue who won until the referree grouped us together and announcd the results. anyhoo, im not that excited about medals and the like coz frankly, i was just a spectator kot. haha i sound like im sore about it but heh. im okay.

afterwards i managed a quick dash to trimbleston for an open hse which was fun and the food was hawt(quite literally so). i actually felt a little awkward but it went pretty well an the girls' hse is lawa. i then went back to ucd, and went to the lib to work n my essay. it felt liberating to be looking for books at nooks and crannies no med student would foreseeably go to. i managed to find some interesting books and i look forward to see how the articles from these books will shape my essay. yeah yeah.

so then i went to alia's. food was fantabulous as always, and at first there werent so many people, but then they came in droves and groups till eventually everyone was there, though at different points in time. we had mee kari, rendang and the works and lontong to boot. it was fun, and especially towards the end when it became really informal and everyone was high on aforementioned grapes.

now comes the 'reading and understanding' part. since i spent a huge chunk of tonight in alia's, observing the workings of dublin's so-called social standings, ive come across a rather obvious crus of people id label dublinarians. these are modern, onslaughting, out-there succesful youths with an easygoing persona and highly identifiable features. i liken this group to the now generic generation y - analogous to the paris hiltons and the natalie portmans of the world.

the dublinarians are the most obvious predominantly malay group in ireland, the creme de la creme. they are never the same in terms of how they are perceived from the outside. they have different social groups, but are always the ones that stood out, that excelled, that aced in their various past lives. they do flock in groups, but they know everyone, putting networking up high in their list of priorities. dublinarians even have distinctive tastes. the guys in demand are always the skinny ones, and always somehow attached to either something football or basketball related. the dublinarian lads seek out impish, nymph-like girls, often on the underfed side. the interactions between these people are so obvious its almost textbook.

there is a clear relevance to yuppies, but these people are more successful and have achieved more. more than the rest.

this is just a theoretical view, completely subjective but highly visceral when you think about it. after you see three or four consecutive polo shirts (with collars up!) and trojan 'do, youre bound to see the correlation. its amazing, really. watch. watch and i think u might notice this.

anyways i had a fun time at alia's hse. met just about everyone, and it was nice to see some people after so long. i had a nice discussion with is, who brought out my talkative side for some reason. we talked about everything from red patent sharp-toed flats to the condition of real estate in malaysia. it was great fun to see amir and abu and alia in action, as it has always been. i enjoyed the company of uncle and auntie though kesian gile they were so tired at the end of the day. kak ros was nice, and i finally met the mysterious anaks hj fauzi. it was a situation i felt very calm in, very in there, and un-nervous for some reason. which is great, in a way. i had a great time, and i think ive mentioned that a few too many times already.

i cant conclude this very well coz its very very late and i havent studied much and i overworked myself today. i feel happy, like a free little butterfly, for everything is going very right for me (it doesnt happen often, so i best savour the moment). i tried playing basketball today and i must say, its a lot of fun. less restricted than netball and a lil more violent hehe. i might try to pick it up next year, along with trampolining.

today on the way back home (and accompanied with a high), the cab driver drove superfast and the traffic lights were green 4 times out of 5. it was fun, going at that speed. it was reckless, i admit, but fun as well, because it felt like a great, toning ending to the day. and hopefully, tommorow i could fit in some major studying to cure some subtle guilt pangs at not doing much of it today. haih. priorities all wrong, but im holding on to the basic principle of 'raya is raya'. no one can take that away from a malay.
